From our very first inhalation
on the day we clothe our self in physicality —
incarnate —
manifest —
in this density of experience we call
"Life"
—
to the final exhalation
on the day we release the body
to return to our Earthly Mother
from which it has come,
and set off on the next phase
of our grand adventure of Life,
we are a living,
breathing
sacrament.
For most of us, breathing is something we do not have to work to do.
We do not have to think about breathing.
We do not have to try to breathe.
For most of us...
We just do.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
Giving and receiving the breath.
Twelve to twenty times every minute (on average).
Largely unaware
that every breath testifies
to the joy and childlike wonder
of our Be-coming —
woven into the ever-evolving tapestry
of this Great Mystery we call…
"Life."
Breathing is a sacred energetic oblation
of mutual reciprocity —
of
Inter
Be-ing.
We breathe out —
trees and plants
breathe in.
We breathe in —
trees and plants
breathe out.
The entire manifest universe breathes,
in some way or another —
inhales and exhales,
expands and relaxes,
rises and falls,
ebbs and flows —
like manifest waves
arising and abating
from and to
the ineffable,
unfathomable
thalassic
depths
of the Vast Oceanic Ineffability
of
Infinity.
In a way,
the nature of the universe
reveals to us a great cosmic
inhalation and exhalation —
the
Universal
Breath.
So why not take a moment today,
wherever you are,
even as you read this reflection,
to bring awareness
to the breath —
the rising and falling —
the rhythm and pulse —
of the in-breath
and the out-breath —
of you breathing —
of
you
being
breathed –
of Life animating, energizing, empowering—
every cell —
every strand of DNA —
every molecule
every single one
of the estimated
70 octillion atoms
that comprise a hu-man body
—
arising and abating,
ebbing and flowing,
surging and subsiding,
and then returning once again to its Source —
the Way of Nature —
the Nature of the Way.
Why not take the next few minutes to sit quietly in simple awareness?
Nowhere to go.
Nothing to do.
Nothing to say.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Simply giving and receiving
the breath of Life.
Simply
being
breathed.
Ahhh!
May your every breath be peace, light and Ineffable Love.
Not two.
